The year’s highlights

AGBU Cairo hosts AGBU’s first centennial celebration with the presence of around 265 guests, coming from various AGBU chapters to celebrate the event in the birthplace of AGBU.

Welcome cocktail reception in the Armenian Embassy of Cairo

Thursday 13 April
Sightseeing tour at the Pyrmids and Saqqara and cruise dinner on the River Nile.

Friday 14 April
Egyptian museum tour and conference on Armenian language teaching and education.

Saturday 15 April
Exhibition of books published by AGBU Cairo and in the evening Grand ball in at the Marriott animated by the famous Armenian singer Nouné Yessaian and her band, specially invited from Armenia.

Sunday 16 April
Sunday mass at the St. Gregory church, followed by lunch at HMEM Nubar Cairo club.
In the evening, the official centennial celebration and show at the Goumhoureya theatre: Performance by famous soprano Hasmik Papian and pianist Vardan Mamikonian.

Monday 17 April
Excursion to Alexandria and visit to AGBU Alex.
Tuesday 18 to Friday 22 April
AGBU’s 100th anniversary: optional tours for the centennial participants to Sharm el Sheikh or Luxor/Aswan (on a Nile cruise).

Thursday 8 June
Celebration of the 1600th anniversary of the Armenian letters discovery with the participation of AGBU Cairo’s Dziadzan choir at the Belekdanian hall.
Friday 9 June
HMEM Nubar Alexandria: opening of the summer season with a friendly basketball match between HMEM Nubar Cairo and HMEM Nubar Alexandria. Open buffet dinner.
Friday 9 June
HMEM Nubar Cairo: Projection of the World Cup opening match on Wide Screen TV. The club is open on every match day for the projection of the matches until the end of the tournament.

Tuesday 13 June
HMEM Nubar Alexandria: Opening of the summer season.

Sunday 18 June
HMEM Nubar Cairo: opening of the summer season with a buffet prepared by the ladies’ committee

Friday 14 to Sunday 16 July
HMEM Nubar Alexandria: Pan Armenian inter-clubs basketball tournament

HMEM Nubar Alexandria great kermesse with more than 20 games prepared by the scouts movement of HMEM Nubar Alexandria, St Marc and Wadi el Nil.
Food and pastry bazaar prepared by the scouts’ parents and the club’s members.

HMEM Nubar Cairo: inter-clubs basketball tournament on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of October’s Victory and AGBU’s 100th anniversary, under the auspices of Arch. Ashod Menatsaguian and the Presidency of Mr & Mrs Berge Terzian. Cups offered by Mr & Mrs Meguerditch Gojamanian, Mr & Mrs Onnog Belekdanian. Dr & Mrs Kevork Yerzengatsian and Dr & Mrs George Simonioan. All the medals are offered by Mr & Mrs Vart Alexanian.

Speeches by: Dr. Yetvart Melkonian, specially invited from Armenia, Dr. George Simonian and Dr. Viken Djizmedjian from the AGBU Cairo board – Distribution of certificates to the veteran members of AGBU Cairo – Songs by AGBU Cairo’s Dziadzan children’s choir.

Thursday 12 December
AGBU Cairo: Prize distribution for the Armenian bright students of Cairo universities and schools at the HMEM Nubar Cairo club.

Friday 22 December
HMEM Nubar Cairo Pastry bazaar under the auspices of Mrs Nvart Mesrobian. Santa Claus in the afternoon.
