The year`s highlights

After the inauguration of the St. Therese club in 1972, Cairo`s Armenian clubs` executive boards decide to hold basketball tournaments on a regular basis, calling these: 4-team basketball tournaments organised in rotation in HMEM Nubar Cairo, St. Therese, Near East and Ararat clubs. The 1972 season is won by HMEM Nubar Cairo

HMEM Nubar Cairo: Traditional celebration of Khetoum with live entertainment animated by “The Moods” band – Armenian buffet. Entrance and dinner 26 PT.

Friday 7 January
AGBU Cairo: Reception for the students of the community who are supported by the Union on the occasion of the New Year and Christmas

Sunday 23 January
HMEM Nubar Cairo: basketball U-18 competition of the Egyptian federation at the Sporting Club. HMEM Nubar Cairo / Near East 63/49. Best players, Garo, Hrair. Vahé and Arpag.

Thursday 27 January
HMEM Nubar Alexandria Excursion to Mariut at the Vartsbedian villa.

Wednesday 2 February
HMEM Nubar Alexandria: excursion to Rashid for the scouts and guides. Visit of Rashid Museum, Abu Mandour 900 years old mosque, sailing on the Nile and visit of the gardens of Edfina and the dam.

Every Friday in February
AGBU Cairo: Scientific courses on radio and television repair and electronics by Mr Haig Iradian at the union’s headquarters.

Sunday 13 February
HMEM Nubar Cairo: reception for all the sportsmen and sportswomen of the club

Sunday 27 February
AGBU Alexandria Lecture by Mr Onnig Kalousdian principal of Boghosian School at the auditorium of the union. Subject: Let’s Value our Youth.

Monday 10 April
HMEM Nubar Cairo: Celebration of Sham el Nessim, traditional breakfast of foul, lunch: kebab, lahmajun, macaroni etc. volleyball and basketball friendly matches among the members, dance in the evening  with “The Moods” band.

HMEM Nubar Alexandria: trip to Montazah

HMEM Nubar Cairo: Reception for our mothers and fathers from Aydzemnig Home

Basketball four-team tournament in St. Therese club with the teams of Near East, Sainte Therese, HMEM Ararat and HMEM Nubar Cairo, under the auspices of Arch. Raphael Bayan, presided by Mr & Mrs Bedros Bediguian.
Friday 1: Near East / St. Therese 77-67, HMEM Nubar Cairo / Ararat 64-52
Satrurday 2: HMEM Nubar Cairo / St. Therese 62-50
HMEM Nubar Cairo won the tournament.

Saturday 15 & Sunday 16 July

HMEM Nubar Cairo: Basketball four-team tournament with the teams of Near East, Sainte Therese, HMEM Ararat and HMEM Nubar Cairo, under the auspices of Mr & Mrs Karekin Paklaian.
Results: HMEM Nubar Cairo – Near East with 62/52, St. Therese – Ararat 62/56.
Final: HMEM Nubar Cairo – St. Therese 83/70 and won the cup offered by Mr & Mrs George Michaelian.
After the final: Party and dance with “The Touch and Scratch” band.

HMEM Nubar Alexandria: Celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Revolution, basketball tournament under the auspices of Mr Avedis Tchakedjian
Friday 21: Ararat / Near East 64 – 43, St. Therese / HMEM Nubar Alex 62-51
Saturday 22: HMEM Nubar Cairo / Ararat  63-62, Gamk / St. Therese 61-60
Women’s match: HMEM Nubar Alexandria girls’ team beats HMEM Nubar Cairo and wins the late Marie Vartsbedian cup.

HMEM Nubar Alexandria Scouts’ and Guides’ celebration of the 20th anniversary of the glorious revolution under the auspices of Mr & Mrs Berge Khanjian

Friday 25 August
AGBU Alexandria: lecture by Mr Arto Hampartsoumian from AGBU Paris district on the Armenian community of France.

Saturday 23 September
HMEM Nubar Cairo: reception – dinner for all the sportsmen and sportswomen of the club on the occasion of their victory in the four-team and inter-clubs competitions.

Sunday 22 October
HMEM Nubar Alexandria: trip to Alamein on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of World War II

Saturday 21 October
AGBU Cairo: Gala Diner at HMEM Nubar Cairo club in honour of AGBU’s veteran members under the auspices of the Spiritual fathers of our community and the presidency of Mr Hovannes Kehyaian, chairman of AGBU Egypt’s District.

Sunday 5 November
HMEM Nubar Cairo wins their 9th cup this year against Near East (71/30)

Sunday 24 December
HMEM Nubar Alexandria Grand Ball of Reveillon at Windsor Palace Hotel with Les Aristocrates band.
