HMEM Nubar Cairo defeated HMEM Nubar Alex on Sunday 72-42 in the final of the club’s Egyptian Pan-Armenian basketball tournament which was held from 4 to 6 October 2019.
HMEM Nubar Alex had qualified to the final after a heroic match and a historic win against Homenetmen Ararat 44-42 on Saturday.
It is to be mentioned that the Alexandrian club has been on a slow but steady rise recently, showing some strong performances coming shoulder to shoulder with Homenetmen Ararat. Their last encounter was on 19 October 2018, at St. Therese’s tournament, when they lost to Homenetmen Ararat, by the narrow margin of 3 points 56/59, after advancing in the first three quarters: 17-15, 30-29 & 45-45).
Well done, players, coach, board members and fans of HMEM Nubar Alex. It was a well deserved win.
The other finalist; HMEM Nubar Cairo, the undisputed champion of the past decade, continued its uninterrupted winning whiz thanks to the club’s strong reserve of rising young players who have started to replace their senior team mates thanks to a good youngsters’ formation plan.
As for HMEM Nubar Cairo’s girls’ team, they are also on a winning track which looks pretty tough to break. These girls deserve all the merit and praise, just like the boys’ team for their impressive, strong level and winning spirit which they have shown all along their matches and past tournaments. Their last win over Homenetmen Ararat on Saturday; 73-46 was a demonstration of this.
On the final day the young U-14 girls of HMEM Nubar Cairo defeated Heliolido 49-22 and the mini basket boys team defeated Shabab El Gezira 46-19
The tournament was held under the auspices of His Grace Bishop Ashod Mnatsaganian, the Primate of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Egypt and the Chairmanship of Dr. & Mrs. Kevork Yerzengatsian
The senior boys’ cup was offered by Dr. & Mrs. Viken Djizmedjian while the girls’ cup was offered by Mr. & Mrs. Richard Parmakian
The young girls’ cup was offered by Mr. & Mrs. Emmanuel Sigalas, The mini-basket cup was offered by Mr. & Mrs. George Zerdelian and the medals are offered by Mr. & Mrs. Vart Alexanian
