Onnig Avedissian (1898- 1974)

Onnig Avedissian was born in Boursa, a small city in Western Turkey, on November 21, 1898. In 1900, his father Hagop being employed as translator (from Turkish to French and vice versa) in a successful tobacco company, moved with his family to Istanbul, the capital of the Ottoman Empire. In this large and cosmopolitan city, Onnig acquired a solid primary and secondary education (1904-1915). Thereafter he was employed in several temporary jobs. Meanwhile, in two consecutive summers (1920-1921) Onnig was tutored by a professional artist named Serovpé Kurkdjian (1872-1924) who enhanced his love for art which paved the way for
