Arté Topalian was born in Manchester on February 6, 1906. In 1924, after ending her secondary education in a boarding school, she moved to Cairo, to join her parents who have been three sometime earlier. In 1926, she began to be interested in art as a hobby. So, she had some lessons from an Italian academic artist who was active in Cairo at that period, named Scarzelli. Then she studied around two years (1920-1930) under the Slovine-French, academic painter Yaro Hilbert (1897-1995).
