Նոյեմբեր 14-ի երեկոյեան ՀՀ դեսպանատան գեղեցիկ պարտէզին մէջ հիւրընկալութիւն մը տեղի ունեցաւ, ՀՀ դեսպան դոկտ. Արմէն Մելքոնեանի եւ իր ազնիւ տիկնոջ հրաւէրով, գաղութիս պատասխանատուներուն, օտար դիւանագէտներու եւ բարեկամներու համար:
Հրաւէրը դեսպանին Գահիրէէին վերջնականապէս մեկնումին առիթով էր: Ինը տարիներ ծառայելէ ետք Հայաստանի Հանրապետութեան որպէս դեսպան Գահիրէի մէջ, որմէ առաջ երեք տարիներ՝ 1994-1997 եղած է ՀՀ դեսպանութեան հիւպատոսը Գահիրէ, ապա՝ Լոս Անճէլըսի (1998-2000) եւ Հալէպի (2002-2006) մէջ, իսկ (2006-2009), Գահիրէ գալէն առաջ եղած է Արտաքին Գործոց նախարարութեան Միջին Արեւելքի բաժանմունքին պետը:
Իր խօսքին մէջ պարոն Դեսպանը արտայայտեց իր խորունկ զգացումները այս երկրէն հեռանալուն համար. ամուր կապերով կապուած եգիպտահայերու, տեղացիներու թէ օտար անձնաւորութիւններու հետ, որոնցմէ հեռանալը դժուար պիտի ըլլայ. ան նաեւ յայտնեց Եգիպտոս ապրելու կենսափորձէն ծնած իր մեծ գոհունակութիւնը, ուր խորունկ կապեր ունեցած է երկրին պատմութեան եւ մշակոյթին հետ:Պարոն Դեսպանը իր խօսքը շնորհակալութեամբ աւարտեց բոլոր անոնց, որոնք այս կենսափորձը արժեւորած են:
Պարոն Դեսպանին յաջորդ աշխատանքը պիտի ըլլայ Երեւան, Արտաքին Գործոց Նախարարութեան մէջ:
Հայաստանի Հանրապետութեան Եգիպտոսի նոր դեսպան նշանակուած է պարոն Կարէն Գրիգորեան, որ Գահիրէ պիտի հասնի Պաղտատէն:

A cocktail reception was held yesterday 14th November at the beautiful garden of the Armenian Embassy in Zamalek, Cairo; a gratitude gathering offered by His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Armen Melkonian and his spouse Mrs. Yevgeni to Egyptian Armenian dignitaries, close foreign and local diplomats, as well as friends.
The reception was a farewell to Dr. & Mrs. Melkonian after nine years of service in Cairo. Prior to assuming this position, his assignments abroad included three years as the Counselor of the Armenian Embassy in Cairo from 1994 to 1997, followed by a term as the Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles (USA) from 1998 to 2000 and Consul General in Aleppo (Syria) from 2002 to 2006. He had served as Head of the Middle East Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2009 before coming to Cairo in August 2009.
In his speech Dr. Melkonian expressed his poignant feelings of leaving the country after the end of his mandate in Egypt, where he has formed strong bonds with different personalities, whether Egyptian-Armenians, foreigners or locals. Besides these bonds, Dr. Melkonian expressed also his immense satisfaction from his experience in Egypt where he was able to form a particular bond with its great history and people. He concluded by thanking his fellow diplomats and embassy staff for their hard work and service.
Dr. Melkonian’s next mandate will be in Yerevan, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Armenia’s new Ambassador to Egypt will be Mr. Garen Krikorian, who will be arriving to Cairo after ending his mandate in Baghdad, Iraq.
From its side, the Armenian Apostolic Patriarchate of Cairo will throw a reception in the honour of the departing Ambassador on Thursday 16th November at the Belekdanian Hall in Heliopolis
