Edmond Kiraz (1923 – 2020)

Kiraz was born in 1923, at Heliopolis, the north-eastern quarter of Cairo, Kiraz (Edmond Kirazian) accomplished his primary education in the Armenian National Nubarian School, and his secondary education in Ecole de Freres, both situated in Heliopolis. Inspired by the cartoons of world famous David Low, published in the Evening standard (1927-1950), he began drawing cartoons when still as a teenager. Being a self-thought cartoonist like his inspirator Low, Kiraz was at his earliest beginnings encouraged and guided by the great cartoonist and caricaturist Alexander Saroukhan, a family friend.
